Real-time quantitative PCR analysis of the icaA gene transcription in staphylococcal biofilms incubated with antimicrobial agents, alone (A, oxacillin and B, nisin) and in combination (C). The expression level of icaA was normalized to the 16 S rRNA gene. The columns represent the average values of triplicate experiments and error bars represent the standard deviations. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey’s honest test indicated a significant difference between each of the strains and untreated groups. Significance was accepted when the P-value was < 0.05. SA: Staphylococcus aureus, SE: Staphylococcus epidermidis, MIC: Minimum inhibitory concentration
